Busy week for IMBC staff
The first week of May saw IMBC represented in three major events across the length and breadth of Europe. New Skills for the Millenium? - May 3-5 In the northern city of Aberdeen, Scotland, the 8th Biennial Meeting of the European Association of Aquatic Sciences Libraries and Information Centres (EURASLIC) was hosted by the Fisheries Research Services, Aberdeen and chaired by Association President Sofia Goulala, NCMR Librarian, Athens. IMBC?s contribution to the interesting programme of events: a poster by IMBC Librarian, M.Stefanakis, outlining past, present and anticipated future progress of information skills in Greece?s newest marine science library. Responsible Aquaculture in the New Millenium - May 2-6 The European Aquaculture Society (EAS) and the World Aquaculture Society(WAS) jointly organised one of the biggest events in the aquaculture year. The combined international conference and trade show attracted more than 3400 visitors, of whom 1450 were registered conference participants. IMBC was well represented at this venue also, with several co-authored papers from Aquaculture Department scientists: Dr.Divanach, IMBC Deputy Director, Prof.Kentouri, Ms.A.Hatziathanasiou and Dr.C.Mylonas who co-chaired the Session on Sustainable Mediterranean Aquaculture with Dr. D. Lacroix. Results from EPET II (Enterprise Programme for Research and Technology),ZAPPEION, Athens, May 3 -12 The Greek General Secretariat for Research and Technology also organised a major event for the first weeks of May, at which each of the Research Institutes displayed the results and outcomes of the EPET II funding. IMBC's contribution concentrates on plans for its future development: the new installations, the Aqualab and the proposed aquarium. |
