COST-IMPACT workshop hosted by IMBC- Atlantis Hotel, Heraklion -21-23 May
Mid-term annual Workshop of EU Project "Costing the impact of Demersal Fishing on Marine Ecosystem Processes and Biodiversity" It has been another typically busy week in IMBC as we move into the final phases of the long gestation of ELKETHE. The 3-DAY IMPACT workshop included presentations by all the participants of the project of progress to date, including most of the field and experimental work carried out in the last 18 months in Crete, Norway and Poland. The work was mainly concerned with field and mesocosm studies into the effects of trawling on biodiversity and consequent impacts on sedimentary nutrient fluxes. Some initial work on both ecosystem and socio-economic modelling was also included. The workshop was also attended by 10 Reference User Group (RUG) members, interested parties from government organisations and private industry, representing the interests of policy makers and stakeholders. The workshop was a great success as can be seen in the photographs below. However, a major input came from the RUGs who were able to provide vital feedback to the project in terms of applicability and usability.
Aims of the Workshop Details can be found on the project website(link provided above). Introduction of the Reference user Group (RUG), Interests of the RUG in COST-IMPACT and their feedback on progress and future direction Project direction and achievements from research and data management perspectives, Presentation of Progress to date, Gaps in data requirements, Future actions/plans for each WP/objective, Summary of workshop progress and discussions of project direction and achievements from all perspectives incorporating RUG feedback ![]() |
