MERAMED Workshop: 28-29 June

2nd Workshop of the EU Quality of Life/Management of Living Resources Programme

The development of monitoring guidelines and modelling tools for environmental effects from Mediterranean aquaculture is the main aim of the MERAMED project, coordinated by the Norwegian Akvaplan-Niva AS based in Tromso.

The 2-day workshop was chaired by the scientific coordinator, Dr T. Pearson, of Scottish Environmental Advisory Services (SEAS).

In view of the exponential growth of fish farming in the Mediterranean in recent years, the main aim of the project is to establish a model-based control system for the environmental monitoring of fish cage farms in the eastern Mediterranean.

MERAMED's first sampling trip, carried out on the IMBC's Research Vessel PHILIA, will take place as soon as the Workshop has ended.
