IMBC at AQUANOR
IMBC has constructed a new website especially for SMEs, www.thalassalink.imbc.gr This will be demonstrated at AQUANOR on our portable website by Lisa Owen. If you cannot afford the round trip to Trondheim, join them on the Web at least and test it for yourself. At the moment it functions in English only, but it will be up and running in Greek and English by the first week in September. IMBC and AQUATT have joined forces at AQUANOR to present three new CD-ROMs, which our regular browsers will already know something about, and may already have tried for themselves. Try downloading Shockwave to test our new demo. It is really quite impressive (and the demo doesn't cost you a thing apart from your time).
BASIC TECHNIQUES IN FISH HAEMATOLOGY The regular monitoring of fish blood is a very useful diagnostic tool in establishing the health status of fish farm stocks. This well-designed CD-ROM, with many high-resolution photographs and diagrams, presents a unique interactive COMPARE function, which helps in the identification of different types of leucocytes. The speed and ease with which such essential comparisons can be made will prove invaluable to the first-time user as well as to the busy technician. It is designed in three parts
It comes in either PC or Mac format, at a cost of 40 pounds sterling.
BIAQUE This database is at present disseminated free on the IMBC website. However, for the student and/or busy professional, neither of whom can afford to waste expensive dialup Internet access time in searching for the references contained within it, the present CD-ROM represents excellent value for money. BIAQUE is a searchable database dealing specifically with aquaculture- environment interactions. The interactive CD-ROM format allows a more effective dissemination of information concerning the science, technology and management of aquaculture interactions with the environment. It comes in either PC or Mac format at a cost of only 25 pounds sterling. They are available from AMC, 29-30 Ushers Quay, Dublin 8, Ireland, or from IMBC, PO Box 2214, Heraklion 71003, Crete, Greece.
AQUALEX ( published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd) has been waiting in the wings for some time. This glossary of definitions of 2750 core aquaculture terms (available in print format, and on CD-ROM with native voice recording) will soon be an essential tool for all workers of all kinds in the international aquaculture industry. The range of terms defined and explained includes the cultured species, their biology, equipment used in culture, the farm environment and the products of the farms. Both print and CD-ROM versions will be available globally in September through John Wiley and Sons Ltd., Baffins Lane, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 1UD (prices and ordering details available on request).
