MAX ROVER Details

The IMBC Max Rover will be rated to 2000 m depth, operatable from the IMBC research vessel Philia (a very flexible 26 m research vessel). It comes with a 2200 m winch mounted cable and a separate 300 m cable for shallow water use. For imaging purposes the ROV will have 3 video cameras, a pilots wide angle colour camera and a colour zoom camera mounted in parallel on a pant and tilt unit and a remountable small black and white video camera for positioning around the vehicle. Still images can be grabbed from any of the video cameras using a digital image grabbing system. For illumination there are 4 quartz halogen lamps. For distant imaging the ROV is supplied with a dual frequency scanning sonar with a maximum range of 100+ m. Manipulation and sampling will be provided by a 5 function hydraulic manipulator. The system is controlled through a pilots console on the research vessel which also gives the ability for autopiloting with respect to course, depth or altitude off the seabed.
