IMBC
installations open on September 26th 2001.
The Greek Government expressed its continuing support of and investment in
the future of Greek Marine Science as Minister for Development Prof. N. Christodoulakis
cut the ceremonial ribbon symbolising IMBC entry into the first of the three-building
complex which is to be its new home.
IMBC has come a long way from its early days in the
renovated refrigerator plant of Heraklion harbour, where its team of young
dynamic scientists carved out a growing reputation that took IMBC to the forefront
of marine biological research at all levels: national, European and international.
The new buildings and equipment will further enable its much-expanded teams
of scientists to continue their leading edge research and technology, as they
"sail beyond the sunset" under the flag of the new Hellenic Centre
for Marine Research.
