SPOTLIGHT on Greek Marine Science is now available in Greek and English versions.
The CD-ROM features:

When the screen animations are activated, the user is transported to locations where everything is seen with new eyes - the eyes of the scientist on the Research Vessel, using the ROV and the video sled, descending in the bathyscaph; working on the beach, the lagoon and wetlands; inside the laboratory working with a microscope, or working on a computer model.

These virtual experiences are accessed through several generic interfaces, all of which are animated: the marine science institute with its laboratories; the coastal zone; the research vessel with its instrumentation, including divers and submersible; the fishfarm; and the aquarium.

POSEIDON

The POSEIDON CD-ROM was commissioned by the National Centre for Marine Research in Athens. It is not for sale, but can be obtained free of charge from the Institute of Oceanography which runs the programme. Contact: knittis@ncmr.gr

The CD-ROM demonstrates the uses of the POSEIDON system, a unique planning tool which provides:

AQUALEX

AQUALEX is a glossary, covering the aquaculture cycle and its terminology, with definitions of more than 2700 terms in English, French, German and Greek. Much more than a traditional dictionary, it provides near-instantaneous translations from and into each language. Another useful new feature allows access to more than 10,000 terms in high-quality native speaker sound, so that users can practise and compare their own efforts with the recordings. Published by John Wiley & Sons, it is now distributed by AMC Limited, Dublin.

A new seven-language version is now almost complete, with Spanish, Norwegian and Italian.
