ICT Services
The ICT department specialises in solving problems using graphic means, by finding the best delivery methods to suit the needs of the specified target audience: traditional print and video, interactive CDROM or websites and webpages. Their multi-tasking capabilities have led directly to the IMBC's successes in the competitive multi-media market (successful completion of 7 CD-ROMs).
The staff of the ICT offer their skills in the following areas:
- Print Based Materials
Using the latest publishing hardware and software the ICT Department is able to produce a wide range of traditional print-based products: books, reports, and posters.
Conference materials of all kinds, including high-quality poster presentations and Audio Visual displays are produced. Previous examples include high-tech exhibitions all over Europe (BusTech: Athens; SETH: Athens; INFOSYSTEMS: Salonika; 5th National Conference of Oceanography, Kavala) and (MAST: Sorrento; EURASLIC: Malta; Coastal Zone Management: Venice; EUROGOOS: The Hague; European Aquaculture Society: Verona; LEONARDO: Brussels; European/World Aquaculture Society: Martinique)
- Video Productions
The ICT department makes specialised as well as more general videotapes . The unit has in the past produced titles on underwater research, aquaculture, fisheries and other marine science subjects. A 6-minute video entitled "The Return of Artemis" featured the rescue and return of a sea turtle (carretta carretta) and was shown on three Greek TV stations, ERT 1, Kreta Channel and Kriti TV. "Greek Research Vessels" was produced for LISBOA 98. "Lagoons and Wetlands" was an EPAEK production. "The Cretan Coasts" is being produced for the Natural History Museum.
See Video Catalogue for details of titles for sale.
- Multimedia/CD ROMs
The ICT department is responsible for the design, implementation and production of multi-media projects.
See Multimedia Catalogue for more information.
- World Wide Web Sites
The ICT designs, develops and produces WWW sites. ICT designed and currently maintains the highly successful IMBC site (1.400.000 accesses in 2000) which promotes the activities and facilities of the IMBC nationally and internationally by providing unique services to the marine science community, making available resources such as abstracts, bibliographies and other types of databases such as glossaries and directories. The ICT department produced the AQUALEX MULTIMEDIA CONSORTIUM site designed for the needs of online marine science education and training (www.aqualex.org). A pioneering site, it incorporates several innovative projects: the COMPANY AUDIT provides online training in the setting up of an Aquaculture company; ONEDIN, which provides online Marine Science courses; English for Biology, a basic language training module at present used by the University of Crete. The Marine Ecology laboratory web site was also designed, constructed and maintained by the ICT. The Federation of Greek Mariculture (FGM) had its web site constructed and maintained by the ICT. THALASSA LINK, another site designed and maintained by the ICT gives product and service information to SMEs in Greece.
