Education

  • 1982:B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Salonika, Greece
  • 1985 M.Sc in Marine Biology from the University of California San Diego (Scripps Institute of Oceanography)
  • 1992 Ph.D. degree in Marine Biology from the University of Crete, Greece.

Professional Experience

  • 1987 - to date. Participation and coordination of research projects carried out by the Marine Environment and Oceanography Departments of the nstitute of Marine Biology of Crete. Dr. A. Tselepides is a Senior Research Scientist, Head of the Oceanography Department and President of the Scientific Council at IMBC. He has been working in the Eastern Mediterranean for the past 14 years and has an invested interest in the study of the functioning of the Mediterranean Sea. His main scientific interests include: deep-sea research, productivity of marine ecosystems, structure and function of oligotrophic ecosystems, determination and quantification of the various modes of energy flux to the benthic communities in the oligotrophic E. Mediterranean Sea, benthic response to organic falls, pelagic-benthic coupling mechanisms, benthic community structure and energetic requirements, development of marine technology platforms.
