- 1971: B.Sc in Biology from the University of Athens, Greece.
- 1979: Postgraduate studies in Zoology, Electrophysiology and Biocybernetic (University of Munich, Germany)
- 1985 Ph.D. degree in Zoology/ Brain Research, (University of Munich, Germany)
- 1985-6 Specialisation in Fisheries Acoustics and Stock Assessment Techniques (IMR, Bergen, Norway).
Professional Experience
- 1986 - to date. Participation and coordination of research projects aimed at the management of the fisheries resources, using hydroacoustics, remote sensing and information systems technologies.
Head of the Department of Sonar and Marine Information Systems in IMBC.

- BIOMASS/ Automatic species classification method, using advanced echo and image processing techniques.
- FISHCAL/ Estimation of Target Strength (TS) of small pelagic species and improvement of interpolation methods.
- FISHSAT/ Remote Sensing Applications and Fisheries Management
- ACOUSTICS/Species identification using Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) and acoustic fish measurements near the sea-bottom.
- FIGIS/ Development of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for the management of the fisheries resources.
- CLUSTER/ Relations between environment and spatial structure of fish aggregations.
- AVITIS/ Development of image processing software and study of the internal structure and behaviour of fish aggregations.
