The latest results from the IMBC contribution to the project.

Some of the results, in respect of chlorophyll concentrations, can be seen
as a 2-D representation of the 3-D model described below.

The Cretan Sea ecosystem processes are described by a system of three linked
mathematical models. More specifically, the hydrodynamics of the area are
described by the Princeton Ocean Model (POM) which is one waycoupled with the Aegean and Levantine Eddy Resolving Model (ALERMO). The concentrations of the water column ecological parameters are simulated by the conservative advection diffusion model. Lastly the biology is described by the European Regional Seas Ecosystem Model (ERSEM).

If you wish to view the 2-D animation of the 3-D model of chlorophyll a concentrations integrated from surface to 150m, click on the image below. The animation is more than 3 megabytes.
