Motor Enclosure Terminology A guide for product comparisons! Dripproof motors have open enclosures, suitable for indoor use and clean atmospheres. The ventilator openings are constructed to prevent liquids and solids from entering the machine from an angle of 0 to 15° from vertical. TEFC (totally enclosed, fan-cooled) motors are equipped with an external fan to circulate outside air to the motor. TENV (totally enclosed, nonvented) motors are designed without air openings. Although air does not freely move between the inside and outside of the motor, construction is not air- or liquid-tight. WDN (washdown) enclosures are great for applications in environments where frequent cleaning or sanitizing is necessary. XPRF (explosion-proof) motors are totally enclosed and designed to withstand an internal explosion of gas or vapormotor frame will not burst or rupture. Use for safe operation in hazardous locations. | | NEMA frame | D | E | 2F | AH† (C-face) | N-W† (non C-face) | U | H | BF | | 48 | 3.00 | 2.12 | 2.75 | 1.69 | 1.50 | 0.5 | 0.34 | 1/4-20 | | 56, 56C | 3.50 | 2.44 | 3.00 | 2.06 | 1.88 | 0.625 | 0.34 | 3/8-16 | | 56H, 56HC | 3.50 | 2.44 | 5.00 | 2.06 | 1.88 | 0.625 | 0.34 | 3/8-16 | | 143T, 143TC | 3.50 | 2.75 | 4.00 | 2.12 | 2.25 | 0.875 | 0.34 | 3/8-16 | | 145T, 145TC | 3.50 | 2.75 | 5.00 | 2.12 | 2.25 | 0.875 | 0.34 | 3/8-16 | | 182T, 182TC | 4.50 | 3.75 | 4.50 | 2.62 | 2.75 | 1.125 | 0.41 | 1/2-13 | | 184T, 184TC | 4.50 | 3.75 | 5.50 | 2.62 | 2.75 | 1.125 | 0.41 | 1/2-13 | | |
