Pressure Transmitters and Pressure Transducers

Pressure transducers are widely used instruments. Pressure transducers convert an applied pressure through a process connection into a current or voltage output. Traditionally transmitters have a current (4 to 20 mA) output, while transducers have a voltage output, but the terminology is interchangeable when talking about pressure instruments. There are standard pressure measurements as well as differential measurement for HVAC and clean room applications, including barometric measurement instruments. Industrial transmitters will have a very durable case to protect the electronics of the unit and even will have explosion cases for many applications, such as in oil and gas exploration and extraction. When not in a very dangerous industrial process, most industrial pressure transducers will have a stainless steel case to protect the unit from mild acids and slightly caustic applications. All transmitters and transducers are used for their output to control pumps, switches, PLCs, or just send a signal to a panel meter to control processes or signal a need for attention.
