Metering pumps offer a high degree of accuracy and are used in a wide variety of applications where precise volumes of liquid are required to be moved in a specified time. A metering pump is a subset of the positive displacement pump type and discharges a known volume with every revolution or cycle. Cole-Parmer's range of metering pumps can cover flow rates from 1 nL/min to 225 LPM with pressure options up to 345 bar.
Cole-Parmer offers a range of metering pump categories, including diaphragm pumps, gear pumps, peristaltic pumps and piston pumps. A metering pump transfers media in two phases:
- The intake stroke where the inlet side of the pump is opened, the outlet side closed and liquid is pulled in to the pump cavity
- The outlet stroke where the inlet side of the pump is closed, the outlet side opened and liquid is forced out
Metering pumps are generally used in applications where one or more of the following conditions apply:
- High accuracy dosing or movement of media is required
- Pumping need to be controlled by computer, PLC, or flow proportioning
- Flow rates are LPH or less
- High system pressure
- High viscosity or slurry media
