Airflow Measurement

An air flow monitor is essential to maintaining a properly working lab. An air flow monitor comes in different varieties. There are vane anemometers, hot-wire anemometers and air capture hoods. Vane anemometers are ideal air flow monitors for many HVAC applications, and measure air velocity, volume and temperature. These airflow meters offer an integral vane for up-close measurements or a vane attached by a cord. The corded anemometer is an air flow monitor that allows measurements to be read easily in hard to reach applications. Hot-wire anemometers are more sensitive and more accurate in low flow applications compared to vane anemometers. Taking measurements with hot-wire anemometers is easy. The small probes can measure air flow or air velocity, air volume and temperature in spaces that are difficult to access. Balometers are ideal for balancing HVAC systems. The hoods measure supply and exhaust air volumes by fitting over grilles and diffusers. The measurement is then displayed on an analog or digital display. Another method of airflow measurement is using a manometer, which can measure both air pressure and air velocity.
